Harpenden Common Golf Club (HCGC) have once again been crowned the Division 1 Champions of the Hertfordshire Golf Men’s Scratch Team League. A quadruple of wins for ‘The Common’ after being crowned league champions in 2021, 2022 and 2023. This ties the all time record with Berkhamsted who retained the league crown between 1990 & 1993.
The title was won at Letchworth GC on Sunday 29 September when the HCGC team beat the home team, Letchworth GC by a very impressive 9.5 points to 2.5 points.
After the morning foursomes the HCGC team were 3 – 1 up with 8 singles matches to follow in the afternoon. HCGC managed to secure 6.5 points of the possible 8 to win the match and comfortably the 2024 title.
The Scratch League is the County premier club competition, held every year and it is the sixth Division 1 win for HCGC since 2012.
A jubilant Team Captain, Ryan Hodges stated ”…… 4 years in a row as champions in the top division just shows the quality of golfers we have here at the Common”.
Harpenden Common Golf Club is very proud of the achievement as the win demonstrated amazing strength in depth that is required to have a strong team for every match against the top golf clubs in the county.
