Mens 1st Team continue good start to the SEG League season

Herts Men's 1st Team 8 - 4 Beds Men's 1st Team at Hadley Wood GC

Report by Mens 1st Team Manager Phil Dormer;

Sunday the 26th of May saw the Mens 1st team take on Bedfordshire at home, with the venue being Hadley Wood GC.

After a strong performance against Middlesex in the opening match of the season it was important to continue the winning run.

The Morning Foursomes was led by Captain Laurie Owen and Tony Wilkins, with the consistent pairing making lots of pars and a few birdies they closed the match out for a 3&2 win

Match 2 saw Joss Gosling and Jamie Plews up against Rob Brightman and Ross Hamilton, overall a very tight match and the Bedfordshire pairing walked away with a 1 up victory.

Match 3 and it was the turn of Connor O’Brien and George Ackerman, another tight match with plenty of missed oppourtunity from both sides. However thankfully on this occasion the Hertfordshire pairing came out 2&1 victors.

Match 4 saw Mr consistent Niall Johnson take young Louie Bloxham under his wing.  Louie took to the game like a duck to water making it very easy for Niall to play his game the pairing eased to a 5&3 victory.

3-1 after the foursomes and Herts impressive foursomes record continues.

Singles

No fear from Louie he wanted to go out NO 1 and thats what he got. He faced a tough seasoned county player from Bedfordshire who holed some amazing putts to beat Louie 2&1, but overall some great experience for him and should stand him in good stead for future matches.

Match 2 was won by Team captain Laurie Owen 1 up.

Match 3 saw Connor O’Brien finish with a halved match against Ryan Craig.

Matches were tight and the overall game could of gone either way until;

Niall Johnston winning his match 4&2, Tony Wilkins winning his match 2 up & Joss Gosling winning his match 4&3.

This gave Herts a strong lead and when George Ackerman finished his match with a half, the game was over.

Match 8 saw Jamie Plews lose 2&1.

Once again a massive thank you to everyone one involved a strong performance and puts Hertfordshire top of the SEG league with Essex to come in 2 weeks time at Letchworth GC.

Thank you to all the staff and members of Hadley Wood for allowing us access to your venue.
