Herts Senior Women v Suffolk – Was It Another Friendly?

Herts Senior Women 3 - 3 Suffolk Senior Women at East Herts GC

Report from County Senior Womens Manager Lindsay Murray-Gray;

The Senior womens team played Suffolk at home at East Herts on Monday 14th July.  This was the second time that Herts had played them in less than a month.  The first time was in a friendly played at Newton Green which our players won 2.5 to 1.5 in a 4BBB format.

It is highly likely that the Suffolk team came to East Herts looking for avenge this defeat but the Herts players definitely had other ideas as they strode to the first tee.  Like most of the local courses, the hard and fast fairways created by the prolonged dry weather made for tricky conditions.  As ever the greens were running true but apparently the pins were far more accessible than when the Suffolk team came for their practice round.  They thought that perhaps the Head Greenkeeper had gotten out the wrong side of the bed that day.

Most of the games were closely contested apart from our own local ‘Close’ – Sally from East Herts who clearly applied her very local knowledge to win convincingly.

The overall result was an honourable draw so whilst not being a friendly this time, it was definitely a friendly result.  Not so great for the 2025 East Region campaign but very good for cross border relations.

Thanks to the players, here’s to remaining friendly but also winning the next match.
