Ambridge qualifies for Senior Open Championship
JOHN AMBRIDGE ON THE PUTTING GREEN AT ROYAL PORTHCAWL WITH 1982 MASTERS CHAMPION CRAIG STADLER IN THE BACKGROUND
John Ambridge qualified through to play in this week’s Senior Open Championship at Royal Porthcawl by virtue of a 6 man play-off in pre-qualifying at Pyle & Kenfig GC on Monday (21 July).
John shot a round of 75 (+4) to end up in a 6 way tie for 12th position. The top 15 players qualified through, so a sudden death play off took place to decide the lucky 5 and the unfortunate one.
Thankfully John was one of the lucky 5 and takes his place at Royal Porthcawl, starting today (Thu July 24), teeing off at 1pm with Scotsman Alastair Webster and Englishman Wraith Grant.
This however is not John’s first major championship having played in the Open Championship at Royal Troon in 1982.
